Company History

Universal Industrial Supply, Inc was incorporated in the State of Ohio in February 1999. Universal distributes gloves and safety products to the commercial, steel, construction, manufacturing, and automotive industries. The company has grown over 100% per year since 2002. Sales went from $480,000 to just under $10 million in 2009. Also, inventory levels have increased from $0 to over $1 million. In the three year period between 2002 and 2004, the corporate operating space increased from 200 sq ft. to 35,000 sq ft. Additionally, several satellite shipping locations were opened to help service acquired corporate contracts, and currently 5 locations throughout the Midwest are under operation, with the corporate headquarters being based in Cincinnati, Ohio.

The management team has combined industry experience exceeding 35 years. This experience has contributed significantly to the success of Universal Industrial Supply. The current management team joined Universal in June, 2003 and have quickly secured many customers due to their long-term customer relationships.

Universal has successfully secured large, long-term contracts with significant customers in its industry, and has a strong presence in the steel industry. The company’s aggressive growth has been assisted by contracts with AK Steel Corporation, North American Stainless, Severstal North America, MillerCoors and Steel Warehouse. Universal is aggressively pursuing additional large contracts in the industries it serves.

In 2004, the first year of its contract with AK Steel, Universal was honored as Vendor of the Year. This honor was obtained while in competition with over 7000 vendors. Since this award, Universal has been recognized as a top 100 vendor every year since the inception of the contract and received its second Vendor of the Year honor in 2008.

Universal takes pride in its ability to listen to its customer’s and creating specialized programs that fit their corporate needs and helps them achieve their purchasing goals when it comes to gloves and safety. We have numerous programs to offer from web-based purchasing to vending machine services. Our investments in software, hardware, and information technology have increased our capabilities to set the pace in our industry of customer specific websites based on a controlled environment of PPE purchasing set to the customer’s specific contract.
